After 10 years building customer-facing orgs, the most common question I get:

  • “What does ‘good’ customer success look like?”

Well, it looks like whatever works for your customers and your business model. 

I spoke to one company who, at an early stage, de-funded their CSM program and instead invested in community-based engagement. It’s working. Another has built a high-functioning Account Management team reporting into Sales, established adoption playbooks under this model, and is now carving out the CSM function.

In order to answer the question, “What does ‘good’ look like?” I find myself asking a series of follow-up questions that lead us to actionable answers.
